When a Schertz, Texas homeowner needed serious foundation plumbing work before a real estate transaction could close, Rapid Plumbing stepped in to handle a complex building drain repair - from tunneling to final inspection.
Identifying the Problem: Broken Drain Lines Below the Slab
During a pinpoint leak detection test, our team identified multiple breaks in the home's building drain system. A break on the right side of the home was affecting the hall bathroom drain line servicing both the hall toilet and hall bathtub. A separate break was found beneath the kitchen sink on the kitchen drain line. Due to the severity of the break below the kitchen sink, our technicians were unable to fully test the kitchen line and the wye servicing the kitchen and washer during the initial inspection - a situation that required further evaluation after primary repairs were completed.
The Repair: Tunnel Excavation & Building Drain Line Replacement
Rapid Plumbing created two access holes and tunneled a total of 29 linear feet beneath the home to expose and repair the broken building drain lines. All repairs were made using Schedule 40 PVC pipe and shielded couplings rated for underground use - materials specifically designed to handle the demands of below-slab installations and meet city inspection standards.
Our team coordinated and scheduled all required inspections with the City of Cibolo, TX and the project engineer. Once inspections passed, both tunnels were completely backfilled with native soil, restoring the home's foundation area to its original condition.
Additional Work: Garbage Disposal Replacement & Hydrostatic Testing
At the customer's request, we also removed and replaced the existing kitchen garbage disposal with a new Badger 5 unit, verifying a leak-free installation before completing the job. To ensure the entire drain system was performing correctly after repairs, Rapid Plumbing conducted a post-repair hydrostatic test on the full drain system - and it passed.
