Sanitary Sewer Line Installation in Universal City, TX

New PVC sanitary sewer line installed below an existing water main in an excavated Universal City roadway.

For this recent project in Universal City, Texas, Rapid Plumbing completed approximately 65 linear feet of trenching to establish a new sewer route while coordinating with city inspectors and protecting nearby public utilities.

Preparing the Roadway for the New Sewer Line

The project began with saw cutting and removing a section of the existing asphalt roadway. This provided the access needed to excavate the trench and route the new sewer service toward the nearby municipal manhole.

Because the excavation extended into the roadway, safety remained a priority throughout the project. Our team installed traffic-control barriers to secure the work area and used traffic-rated steel plates to safely cover the excavation when needed.

Once the route was prepared, we installed a new 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC sewer line. The pipe was placed with the proper bedding and grade needed to support dependable drainage and long-term system performance.

Adapting to Revised Municipal Requirements

The initial sewer connection was established approximately two feet below grade. Following coordination with the City of Universal City Public Works Inspector, the connection location was revised. The sewer tap would instead need to enter at the bottom of the municipal manhole, approximately seven feet below grade.

Reaching the revised connection point required a larger asphalt access excavation. During this phase, our plumbers encountered an active 12-inch water main running directly through the work area.

Rather than risk damaging this critical public utility, our team carefully excavated around the water main by hand until enough clearance was established to continue safely.

Completing the Sewer Connection and Inspections

A new 6-inch sewer tap was installed at the municipal manhole and properly transitioned to the previously installed 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC sewer line. This created a secure connection between the property’s new sewer service and the municipal sewer system.

After installation, the completed work successfully passed all required inspections from both the Public Works Department and the Plumbing Department. The excavation was then backfilled with native soil, the work area was cleaned, and all excess material and construction debris were removed.

This Universal City sewer line installation required careful planning, municipal coordination, roadway safety measures, and the ability to adapt when unexpected underground conditions were uncovered. Rapid Plumbing is equipped to manage complex sewer excavations and installations from the first cut through final inspection.
