Newly installed 1-inch pressure regulator valve with PEX pipe and fittings in San Antonio, TX by Rapid Plumbing

High water pressure might not seem like an urgent problem — but at 95 psi, your pipes, fixtures, and appliances are under serious stress every single day. Rapid Plumbing recently completed a pressure regulator valve (PRV) replacement for a homeowner in the 78256 area of San Antonio, TX, bringing their system back to a safe and efficient operating pressure.

The Problem: Dangerously High Water Pressure

When our team arrived at the home on Chaucer Hill, we took a pressure reading on the incoming domestic water line and found it running at 95 psi — well above the recommended range of 60–80 psi. Sustained high pressure like this puts excessive strain on water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, and supply lines, dramatically increasing the risk of leaks, burst pipes, and premature fixture failure.

The culprit was a failing 1-inch pressure regulator valve that was no longer doing its job.

The Fix: PRV Replacement with PEX Pipe & Fittings

With the homeowner's approval, our crew got to work. We dug out the area to gain full access to the existing PRV, cut out the old defective valve, and installed a brand new 1-inch PRV using new PEX pipe and fittings to complete the repair properly.

Once the new valve was in place, we turned the water back on and set the pressure to 74 psi per the customer's preference — within the safe range and exactly where they wanted it. After testing, no leaks were detected.

Why Water Pressure Matters in San Antonio Homes

San Antonio's water supply can fluctuate in pressure, making a properly functioning PRV essential for protecting your plumbing system. If your water pressure feels unusually strong, you hear banging pipes (water hammer), or your fixtures are wearing out faster than expected, a failing pressure regulator could be the cause.

A PRV replacement is a straightforward repair that can save San Antonio, TX homeowners thousands in water damage and appliance replacement costs down the road.
